Short Summary / Biography:
Friar Lawrence is a Franciscan priest, and his role in the play is an important one. A man of good intentions, he marries Romeo and Juliet in the hope that their union will end the feud between the Capulets and Montagues and thereby bring peace once again to Verona.
After Romeo kills Tybalt, it is Friar Lawrence who tells him to go to Mantua. He provides Juliet with the potion that will allow her to fake her death.
At the end of the play, he admits that he feels that the death of the two young lovers is his fault, but he is forgiven by Prince Escalus.
